October is Fire Prevention Month, and the Scott Fire Department is working hard to raise awareness about fire safety and help ensure residents' safety.

The department has been traveling to local schools and civil events to educate children on fire prevention and safety in the home.

Chief Chad Sonnier says that as a part of their awareness efforts, the department was at Guidry's Hardware & Supply on Saturday for their 75-90% off tent sale.

While there, store manager Pepe Glaze presented Scott Fire Department with 25 smoke detectors, in an effort to keep the citizens of Scott safer.

Statistics confirm that properly installed and maintained smoke alarms play a vital role in reducing fire deaths and injuries.

If you live in Scott and are without a working smoke detector, go to http://www.scottfd.com/event-request.html, fill out the event request, and in the comment section, inform the department that you would like a working smoke detector in your home.

SFD will then contact you and make arrangements for personnel to properly install them.

The Scott Fire Department thanks Guidry's Hardware & Supply for understanding the importance of everyone having at least one working detector in the home, and stepping up to make this possible.
