Some Lafayette residents got a chance to take home a free mask on Saturday.

It was all thanks to State Representative Vincent Pierre.

He partnered with Pyburn's, a Texas grocery store, to give away 1,000 masks. Masks were given away at Maid to Clean on E. Simcoe Street Saturday morning.

Rep. Pierre said he feels the community's safety is a priority.

"What we're going to do right here in Lafayette, in our community, is donate these masks to the people. Provide access to protect them from the COVID virus, and I think it's very important," explained Rep. Pierre. "It's key that we ensure that our people are protected."

Pyburn's owner Helen Vuong said, "For us, community is more than just the local area around you, it's the people that hold a special place in your heart, no matter their location. Through this partnership, we are able to transcend our commitment locally and extend help to a valued common asset between our two states, the people."
