Our Lady of Lourdes Heart Hospital is making sure their patients are not only taken care of physically, but spiritually as well, during the pandemic.
The hospital specializes in spiritual care, where priests, sisters, and deacons can visit and pray with patients.
But they had to get creative when the pandemic forced hospitals to limit visitors.
"We thought it was a good idea to get Father Duhon on the iPad and we'd patients if they would like to pray. I would take the iPad from room to room," explained Brittany Douget.
Douget is a registered Respiratory Therapist at Lourdes Heart Hospital. She says these virtual sessions are helping patients heal spiritually.
"I'm a very spiritual person. I need God everyday, so I know some of these patients are very spiritual as well," she said. "Some actually cry because they haven't been able to go to church, especially the older generation. They haven't been able to go to church because the churches were closed. So they were very thankful and appreciative, because this was happening and gave them a chance to pray and talk to priests like they were standing person to person."
While it's been a difficult time navigating through the pandemic, the word of God is bringing comfort.
"I'm grateful to God for giving us an idea and technology that we need to connect with each other to help encourage one another," Douget said. "We are a healing ministry. For God to use me as a vessel and use this way to spread his word. We didn't allow COVID to stop that."
