A new home care center has opened its doors in Lafayette.

Jeanella Cares cares for people who are elderly and/or who have disabilities and helps with day-to-day activities.

Co-owners Jeanella and Howard Ledet hope the center can bring a sense of family to everyone involved.

The center held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday to celebrate the business' opening.

Jeanella Ledet said she does not want to treat her clients as numbers, but with personal care.

"We want to be a part of their life," said Ledet. "A lot of people are out of contact with the community."

Caregivers will visit clients daily to help with day-to-day activities, spend time with them, and even help make their birthdays feel special when they otherwise may not.

Ledet said she has lots of ideas moving forward, but is taking it one day at a time.

"We all have to get old, you just don't know what God has in store for you," Ledet added. "And if we all have sympathy and empathy for each other, this world will be a better place."

Jeanella Cares is located at 200 Travis St. Ste. 208. For more information, call 337-889-0626.
