Members of the Imani Temple in Lafayette are celebrating Kwanzaa.

The first day of Kwanzaa was Thursday, December 26, and the holiday will be celebrated until January 1, 2020.

Kwanzaa is a celebration of African and African American culture and history. It celebrates family, culture, and community.

Members of the community are invited to the temple on January 1 at 3 p.m. for a celebratory event.

"We take those principles and we try to teach them to the community, teach them to our children, so therefore we an incorporate the realities of what those principles mean in our everyday lives," explained Takuna El Shabazz, Outreach Commissioner with Imani Temple.
