Lafayette Mayor-President Josh Guillory announced on Wednesday the appointment of Mary Sliman as LCG's Director of Development and Planning.

Sliman's achievements, expertise, and leadership in the Acadiana real estate industry are an asset to the department in moving planning and development initiatives forward, said Guillory.

"Of the many qualified candidates, Mary Sliman stood out as having the natural attributes and leadership qualities to propel the Development and Planning Department forward," said Mayor-President Guillory who added, "I am committed to continuing to work with our City and Parish Councils and our City and Parish Planning Commissions to repeal and replace the Unified Development Code so that Lafayette can once again be inviting to businesses from all over the world. Mary understands this importance and is the best person for the job."

Sliman has extensive knowledge of the Unified Development Code, which Guillory said is beneficial for attracting new developments in the City of Lafayette and Lafayette Parish.

"I am already prepared to help with the facilitation of successful real estate development in our parish. My relationship with the real estate professionals in Acadiana will be a huge asset, as these professionals are often liaisons to the members of the development community," Sliman said.

Sliman added that she looks forward to working with the Unified Development Committee to bring forward ordinance changes that create development-friendly codes for the city and parish, and welcomes a healthy working relationship with the City and Parish Planning Commission on much-needed changes.

Sliman earned a Master's Degree in Business Administration and touts 13 years of professional experience in the real estate industry, including serving as the Multiple Listing Service (database of properties for sale used by real estate agents and brokers) Director for the REALTOR® Association of Acadiana.

In her latest position, she oversaw the MLS for a six-parish region, including Lafayette, Acadia, Iberia, St. Landry, St. Martin and Vermilion Parishes. In that role, she was responsible for making and implementing policies, ensuring data accuracy, training and support, and system software maintenance.

Some of her other accomplishments in the real estate industry include successful MLS software transition for 1,100+ members, national accreditation for the REALTOR® Commercial Alliance, and development and continuation of the Acadiana Commercial Outlook, Lafayette's premier commercial real estate seminar.
