LAFAYETTE — Early voting could be a little easier for the upcoming elections in Lafayette Parish thanks to new technology unveiled by the Parish Registrar of Voters.

Registrar Charlene Meaux-Menard says the new machines were important.

"The equipment couldn't be updated because with the new internet stuff they couldn't be upgraded".

With talk of voter fraud and hacking attempts clouding elections in recent years, the Louisiana Secretary of State's Office is taking steps to make voting easier and more secure.

Keep in mind that state law only gives voters three minutes to cast their ballots and the new machines were designed with efficiency in mind.

Menard says voters still need to study the ballots before heading to the polls.

Voters can head to www.geauxvote.com to look at the ballots for their precinct and they can also download the app.

Early voting in Lafayette Parish runs from September 28th through October 5th from 8:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. excluding Sunday.
