The Lafayette Parish School Board has unanimously voted to name Irma Trosclair superintendent of schools.

Board members met Wednesday night to discuss the two candidates who applied to be the district's next superintendent. Trosclair and Dr. Curt R. Green, of Atlanta, were under consideration for the position.

Both candidates met the minimum qualifications for the job, but the decision was made by the board to move forward with hiring Trosclair.

The school board also voted to move Acadian Middle School's regular fifth-grade classes to Live Oak Elementary School and Acadian Middle's fifth-grade English Language Learners' classes to Carencro Heights Elementary School.

In a 5-4 vote, the board approved using almost $700,000 in USDA funds to purchase classroom equipment and to make improvements to outdoor athletic facilities at Southside High School.
