'Tis the season for decking the halls and lighting your yard, but depending on how you wire it, your display could become a fire hazard.
Experts at The Home Depot say read the box instructions and never plug in more cords than recommended. Also, consider switching to low energy LED lights because the LED bulbs use less heat and you can string together more cords safely. In addition, make sure outlets are covered and not exposed to the weather.
Home Depot's electrical supervisor Tyler Price said, "Electrical and the lighting cords that go outside of your home are going to have two different types of insulation to it. The ones outside your home are going to be a little thicker than the ones that go inside. So, when you read the box, make sure you know what's compatible to go inside or outside."
