LAFAYETTE — A nonprofit organization in Lafayette is expanding its services.

Hearts of Hope is now offering counseling for victims of sexual assault who identify as LGBTQ.

The staff says the counseling sessions offer survivors a safe space to speak about their trauma and learn how to cope.

"Studies show that people who identify as LGBTQ+ are at a higher risk of being involved with sexual violence, and on top of that, it may be harder for them to disclose this information to somebody else," said Kristen O'Neal, LMSW, a SARC counselor at Hearts of Hope.

The organization's services are free. If you're interested in their services, call 337-269-1557.
