LAFAYETTE — Two years ago, DOTD announced it would replace the crossovers on Johnston Street with J-Turns. However, that work has not yet begun.

KATC is now getting answers about when that project will begin. According to DOTD, construction will start within the next few months.

"It's going to start around December," said Bill Oliver, DOTD district engineer administrator. "Right now, they're in the process of acquiring materials. Our biggest item there is signal poles. There's a long lead time to order signal poles and get them fabricated. We're in that process right now to start that project and get it going in December.

"You'll start seeing removal of things--lighting, light poles, there might be some drainage work to start. There will probably some drainage work to start and preparing the medians to put concrete in the middle."

Construction will take around two-and-a-half years. Drivers can expect some traffic jams in the area during the construction period.

"Because of all the traffic and congestion and confinement there, most of that work is going to take place in traffic, and it's going to be slow and tedious," Oliver said.
