The 16-year-old victim of a shooting in Lafayette on Sunday has died, according to Lafayette Police.
Charges have now been amended to Negligent Homicide for the 17-year-old arrested in connection with the shooting incident.
Officers say they responded on September 1 to a juvenile being shot in the 100 block of S. June Drive at around 8:00 pm. Upon arrival, officers say they located a 16-year-old female inside a home suffering from a gunshot wound.
She was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. Police say the victim died at the hospital on Monday, September 2.
An investigation into the shooting revealed that a 17-year-old male inside the residence had accidentally discharged the weapon striking the victim.
At the time, he was arrested and booked on a charge of negligent injury. That charge has been amended to Negligent Homicide.
The teenager remains in custody at the Lafayette Juvenile Detention Center.
