UPDATE: Chief A. Perry Thomas reports Marlon H. Williams, the inmate who escaped Saturday from the Ville Platte City Jail, has been captured by Ville Platte Police in cooperation with the Ville Platte City Marshal's Office. Chief Thomas thanks the Marshal's Office and the community for their assistance.

VILLE PLATTE, La. — Authorities say an inmate has escaped from the Ville Platte City Jail.

Police Chief A. Perry Thomas said 37-year-old Marlon Williams of Mamou escaped Saturday evening through an unsecured door in the jail’s recreation yard.

Williams is described as 6 feet tall and about 150 pounds.

He was being held on charges of domestic abuse battery with strangulation and home invasion.

Anyone who sees Williams or knows where he may be is urged to call 911 immediately.
