It's not everyday that someone celebrates their 105th birthday, but one Jeanerette woman and her family had that opportunity today.
Maria Erna Rodriguez was surrounded by friends and family at A Spot for Tea in New Iberia Saturday to blow out the candles once more.
Her granddaughter said Rodriguez wouldn't want her birthday to be any other way.
"I think every year she enjoys it. She has a great time," said Dina Rodriguez-Landry.
Ms. Rodriguez was born in 1915 and has been a resident of Jeanerette for the past 40 years, according to her family. She has one son, eight granddaughters, and many great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren.
Her family says she is "the glue that holds the family together."
"I guess it makes her heart happy to know that the family is together," added Rodriguez-Landry. "We're together and that's the most important thing - family."
