The Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office is investigating a motorcycle crash that took the life of a New Iberia man.

IPSO Spokesperson Lt. Col. Wendell Raborn says deputies responded shortly after 10 p.m. on Friday, March 27, to a single vehicle crash in the 7600 block of Lake Peigneur Road.

Deputies found a single motorcycle was involved and the driver had been ejected from the motorcycle. The driver, a 45-year-old man of New Iberia, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Indications are that the motorcycle was traveling east on Lake Peigneur Road when the driver lost control and struck a ditch, Lt. Col. Raborn said.

The Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office Traffic Division is conducting the investigation. It is unknown at this time if impairment was a factor.

The driver's identity is being withheld until next-of-kin can be notified.
