State Police are now investigating the officer involved shooting in Lake Charles.

According to LSP Spokesman Derek Senegal, Lake Charles Police officers responded to a disturbance call at a residence on Tulip Street in Lake Charles shortly before noon.

Upon arrival, officers encountered 45-year-old Kerry Van-Buren at the residence. As officers began to investigate the call, Van-Buren entered his vehicle and struck a LCPD patrol vehicle as he attempted to flee the scene. As the incident occurred, an LCPD officer discharged his firearm, striking Van-Buren.

Van-Buren was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries and released. He has been booked into the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center on charges related to the incident.
