South Louisiana Community College hosted a graduation ceremony today for its first class of power linemen.

That event was held tonight at SLCC's Acadian Campus in Crowley.

Graduates received a certificate of completion for the 25-week program, and a representative from CLECO spoke about the importance of the Power Lineman course in Acadiana.

SLCC's Power Lineman program was developed through partnerships with CLECO, SLEMCO, LUS, and Entergy to meet the needs of the community. The course is taught in Crowley.

The four-month program trains students to build, repair, and maintain electrical systems for private and public utility companies. Students receive hands-on training and upon graduation receive a National Center for Construction Education and Research certification.
