CHURCH POINT, La. - A Church Point police officer has resigned after sharing a post on social media.

Church Point Chief of Police Dale Thibodeaux said he received complaints this morning in reference to a post one of his officers made on Facebook.

The officer was on leave with no pay until the investigation is complete, Thibodeaux said Friday afternoon. He released a statement later on Friday, saying that as of 3 p.m. that afternoon, the officer had resigned amid an investigation.

The Facebook post is of an African-American man in front of a billboard referencing a stimulus check while using the N word. The officer did not write the post or comment on it, but did share it.

Thibodeaux said he submitted all documentation to the council for their recommendation on possible disciplinary action.
