A Youngsville craft coffee shop's unique recipe has been named a finalist in a national contest held by General Mills Foodservice.

The 6th Annual Neighborhood to Nation Recipe Contest asked entrants to share an image of their recipe using at least one ingredient from General Mills Foodservice's particpating brands and tell how their dish brings joy and comfort to their community.

Huya Craft Coffee's winning recipe was its boudin pastry tart, which judges commended for being a "hand-held item with fun appeal, a creative use of regional products, a versatile item that can be made with several sausage flavors and a useful takeout item that can be reheated," The Advocate reports.

Huya's pastry tart packs local boudin and pepper jack cheese between layers of Pillsbury pie dough and is topped with pepper jelly and cracklins. Judges said the recipe "packs Cajun country faves" and added "it's easy to see why this new creation is well on its way to become a coffee shop staple."

Kily LaGarde says Huya began creating pastry tarts and their pastry chef came up with the idea of adding boudin.

"Then the thought of pepper jelly came on top and the pepper jack cheese on the inside, and it ended up being amazing," said LaGarde.

The coffee shop earned $5,000 for their win. Co-owners David and Shayna Hines and Kily LaGarde are now asking Acadiana residents to vote for the contest's fan favorite. That restaurant will receive an additional $5,000 for a local food bank. Voting will take place on the General Mills Facebook page from February 22-26. A winner will be announced at 12:00 on Monday, March 1.

The boudin pastry tart is on the menu at Huya, but it sold out immediately on Saturday, the co-owners say. More will be available on Sunday - but head out there early because they sell out quick! Huya is located at 1901 Chemin Metarie Road Suite 1.
