Young Acadiana residents donate lemonade stand earnings to hospital staff

and last updated

Two young Acadiana residents put their entrepreneurial spirit to use on Saturday.

Youngsville residents Madeleine and Luke weren't able to celebrate their birthdays this year the traditional way, what with social distancing guidelines and other safety measures.

They decided on a creative way to have a little fun while also giving back to their community. The siblings set up a lemonade stand in a Youngsville neighborhood and decided to give back a little while they were at it. Proceeds from sales will be used to purchase gift cards, which will be presented to emergency department staff at Our Lady of Lourdes in Lafayette.

After all, the siblings' motto is, "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade."

Their father, Nicholas Fitzmorris, explains that the stand allows his family to show appreciation to front line workers.

And Luke and Madeleine's reason for doing it?

"Because the nurses and doctors who didn't have lunch, we want to get them some credit cards to go and get some lunch."
