The Lafayette Women's Chamber of Commerce has partnered with several local businesses and residents to help Hurricane Laura survivors.
On Friday, the first load of supplies was delivered to St. John Vianney Church's Bell City-Lake Charles parish. The church serves the communities of Hayes, Homewood, Sweet Lakes and Bell City, and all of those areas have been devastated by the hurricane. Some residents are sleeping in tents, organizers say.
Representatives of the Women's Chamber say they delivered 400 pounds of non-perishable food, 150 pounds of cleaning supplies, 75 pounds of hygiene products, six (6) cases of brooms (125 pounds), 40 pounds of paper goods, 300 pounds of clothing, and 50 pounds of blankets and towels to the church.
The items were donated bymembers of the Lafayette Women’s Chamber of Commerce, people in the Lafayette Community, and the Half Shell Oyster House Restaurants across the southern gulf coast for donated items.
They're still collecting supplies for the next drop-off.
