One woman is defending her brother who is accused in a shooting that injured five in downtown Lafayette a week ago.
Aaron Gutierrez is facing attempted second-degree murder and negligent injuring charges. Gutierrez is the second person arrested, however the first person, who was shot that night, was released after five days in jail.
The family of this latest suspect--believes he was also a victim.
Kiara Tucker says her 21 year old brother, Aaron Gutierrez was out with friends downtown Lafayette on June 14, when someone came up and shot him in the back.
She says what he did next was in self defense.
"He got shot, and taking out his gun, he got shot two more times, and I guess he just started letting out shots," Tucker said.
Tucker found out about the shooting from a friend. She says her brother was shot a total of four times.
"They were saying Aaron, he's on the ground, he's not moving," she said.
While Gutierrez is the only person in custody, Tucker believes her brother's shooter is still out there
"My brother should be held accountable for what he has done, possession of things he shouldn't have, but I also hope, they find his shooter, they almost took his life too," Tucker said. "I feel like people know, and they won't say anything. That's where the problem comes in. We want to know who did this to my brother. Who wants to take his life? That was three shots close to his heart."
A spokesperson with the Lafayette police department say no other arrest are expected, but the investigation is ongoing
