Waitr has teamed up with Lafayette-area restaurants to support local food banks this holiday season.
On Monday, November 23, the Waitr Holiday Food Drive will collect non-perishable food donations at select Lafayette-restaurants locations to help feed local families in need.
Waitr says that food banks and pantries have seen a spike in demand due to the ongoing Covid-19 crisis. Food organizations warn that they could begin experiencing a massive food shortage in the coming months.
To help curb those shortages, Waitr has partnered with several Lafayette-area restaurants and markets for a month-long drive.
Participating restaurants include: Pizza Village (2340 Kaliste Saloom Road in Lafayette); Twins (2801 Johnston Street in Lafayette); Sushi Masa (3920 Ambassador Caffery Parkway in Lafayette); Pizza Artista (219 St. Nazaire Road Suite G-1 in Broussard); Lee’s Grocery & Hardware (3525 N University Ave. in Lafayette).
Waitr says that items can be dropped off in donation bins at each participating partner beginning Monday, November 23 through December 23, during regular business hours. Waitr says they will deliver all the collected food items to Second Harvest Food Bank.
In addition, Waitr says that those ordering from restaurants using the Waitr app or website Waitrapp.com will have the option to click the donation banner to provide a monetary donation. A portion of all customer donations will be matched, they say.
The most-needed food bank items include proteins (canned tuna, dried or canned beans, soup, peanut butter), grains (high-fiber cereal, oatmeal, pasta, rice), canned fruits and vegetables, and bottled water.
“From the very beginning, Waitr has placed a special emphasis on being part of the communities we serve, doing what it takes to help when we are needed,” said Carl Grimstad, CEO and chairman of the Board of Waitr. “These are unprecedented times during which individuals and families face the real possibility of going hungry for the first time in their lives. We want to assist as many people as we possibly can, and the Waitr Holiday Food Drive is a way to do just that.”
