The Veterans Upward Bound program is helping veterans with Thanksgiving today.

The program provided a curbside Thanksgiving dinner today for veterans enrolled in the program.

Veterans Upward Bound (VUB) is a free pre-college program designed to help veterans refresh their academic skills and motivate them to succeed in pursuing their academic goals. The program provides counseling, mentoring, tutoring and academic instruction in the core subject areas. UL Lafayette's VUB program is housed in the Department of Special Services.

VUB staff handed out the dinners today outside on Rex Street this morning.

"Today was our annual Thanksgiving giveaway. It's an opportunity to give back to the veterans, to honor their time and effort," said Tarron Lewis, an Academic Counselor with VUB.

It's the third year that the UL VUB has done the giveaway, Lewis said.

Lewis, who is a veteran himself of the U.S. Marine Corps, said the group is planning for the spring semester; because of COVID there are classes offered in different formats, including virtual.

Veterans who may be interested in the program can find more info here and here.
