A Lafayette man was injured Friday in a shooting on St. Charles Street, according to police.

Officers responded at 8 a.m. to a shooting incident in the 800 block and, once on scene, discovered both the victim and the suspect left the scene prior to their arrival.

Police were able to make contact with the victim a short time later at a local hospital. He suffered a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his lower torso, police say.

The investigation revealed that the victim arrived at the residence of the suspect. A verbal altercation took place and turned violent when the suspect retrieved a handgun from inside the residence as the victim was attempting to leave.

The suspect shot at the victim multiple times; the victim was able to drive away.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.
