US Marshals take Carencro man into custody in Edison St. shooting

A Carencro man has been arrested and is facing second degree murder charges in a shooting on Edison St. in Lafayette last week.

Keon Woods, 25, was taken into custody without incident on Friday, June 26, by agents with the Louisiana Western District US Marshals Violent Task Force. LPD detectives secured an arrest warrant for Woods for one count of Second Degree Murder in connection with the Edison St. shooting.

Woods was brought to the police department and interviewed by investigators, after which he was transported and booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on the above charge.

Police responded on the morning of June 19 to a shooting in the 700 block of Edison St. Officers located one victim with a single gunshot wound to the upper torso. The victim, identified as 27-year-old Rico Thomas, was provided medical assistance and transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The suspect had fled the scene prior to officers' arrival.
