This year's Uncle Sam's Jam in Lafayette Parish has been canceled according to organizers.

Social Entertainment and Lafayette Roofing & General Contractors announced Monday that the annual Independence Day event will not take place because of growing concerns over community spread of COVID-19 in Lafayette Parish.

Uncle Sam's Jam is an annual 4th of July celebration held in Downtown Lafayette

The event organizers say they considered hosting a scaled down version of Uncle Sam's Jam this year, with all COVID-19 safety measures in place, however, because of the recent spikes in COVID-19 cases, they felt that hosting the event this year was not worth taking the potential risks.

"We brought 'Uncle Sam's Jam' to Parc International, Downtown Lafayette for the last 6 years. It is with a heavy heart that we announce we won't be hosting the 7th Annual Uncle Sam's Jam this year. The health and safety of our community is our first priority", says Darren Domingue, owner of Lafayette Roofing & General Contractors.

Each year, the event features live music, pop-up vendors, a spectacular fireworks show.
