University of Louisiana at Lafayette students, alumni and football fans won’t have to wait until the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns square off against the Arkansas State Red Wolves to enjoy Homecoming 2020.
The game will kick off at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7, at Cajun Field. First, however, a pep rally, scavenger hunt and decorating contests are among activities planned for Homecoming Week. “Timeless Traditions” is the Homecoming 2020 theme.
The week will begin with the Paint Your Pride event from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 1. Student organizations can sign up to paint a window of the UL Lafayette Student Union.
Later that day, the Ragin’ Rock and Bowlwill be held from 4-6:30 p.m. at Rock ’n’ Bowl de Lafayette, 905 Jefferson St. Attendees will bowl and enjoy refreshments. Registration is $25 per person.
The fun will continue on Monday, Nov. 2, when a Campus Scavenger Hunt begins at noon. Students will have several days to search for small, University-themed footballs hidden at various spots across campus. The most-successful hunters will earn prizes from the University Program Council.
Also Monday, students who visit Cypress Lake Plaza outside the Student Union between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. can enjoy free cupcakes. The UPC will hand out the treats, while they last, as part of its Cupcake Giveaway.
On Tuesday, Nov. 3, Movie Madness will feature two showings of the film “Invisible Man.” The curtain will rise at 7 p.m. and again at 9:30 p.m. Both showings will be held in the green space between Baker Hall and the Taft Street parking garage.
Also Tuesday, businesses participating in the Paint the Town Redcompetition will earn a chance at bragging rights. Photos of their displays of Ragin’ Cajun spirit and pride must be submitted by day’s end to be considered for a first- or second-place finish in interior and exterior decorating categories. University supporters are encouraged to be on the look out for displays, especially on Wednesday, Nov. 4, which is Paint the Town Red Day. The competition is sponsored by the UL Lafayette Alumni Association.
Also Wednesday, the Wear Red, Get Fed event and Campus Cupboard Food Drivewill be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. outside the Student Union near Cypress Lake. Attendees who wear Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns gear will get a free lunch. They’ll also get a chance to return the favor by donating nonperishable food and hygiene products to the University’s Campus Cupboard.
A performance by hypnotist Chris Jonesat 7 p.m. Wednesday will be held in the Student Union’s Atchafalaya Ballroom. Jones, who is from Chicago, appeared in Season 10 of “America’s Got Talent.”
The Yell Like Hell Pep Rally will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 5, in the Quadrangle. Members of the Homecoming Court, cheerleaders and the Louisiana Ragin’ Jazz dance team will attend.
At 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 6, a metal replica of the official University rings worn by alumni and students will be dedicated.The small statue sits in the foyer of the Student Union’s McKinley Street entrance.
