In Louisiana, rallies were held in several cities to lobby for cannabis rights.

Part of Legalize Louisiana, students at UL Lafayette marched from Griffin Hall on campus to the Parish Courthouse in Lafayette. There, those gathered protested the illegal prosecutions and convictions of cannabis-law offenders.

"We believe there is a more humane possibility in drug policy, one more suited to a public health approach rather than a criminal justice approach," Mark Mallory with Student Action and Organize committee said.

Campuses in Baton Rouge, Lake Charles, Shreveport and New Orleans also took part in the walkouts.

At the courthouse, the group of about seven individuals held signs calling for legalization and an end to the war on drugs.
