On Tuesday, October 22, University Hospital & Clinics will cut the ribbon on their new urgent care center on West Congress Street in Lafayette.

The clinic will begin seeing patients on Wednesday, October 23 and will serve those with Medicaid and other private insurance across Acadiana.

No appointments are needed to utilize the urgent care clinic.

UHC says that patients will be seen on a first come first serve basis with minimal wait time.

The center will be open Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm and Saturdays and Sundays from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm.

The new clinic, according to UHC, is approximately 5,616 square foot and cost $1 million to construct. Around 11,000 patients are anticipated to be treated during the clinic's first year in operation.

The hope is that the new clinic will reduce the number of patients using UHC's Emergency Room and keep ER visits for true emergencies.

UHC began seeing patients after hours two years ago as part of their pilot program for urgent care.

The clinic will be staffed by six providers and Dr. Kent Humble will serve as Urgent Care Medical Director.
