LAFAYETTE, La. - A ribbon cutting ceremony was held on Tuesday for a new clinic opening at University Hospital & Clinics (UHC).

On Tuesday, October 22, UHC held a ribbon cutting ceremony on their new Urgent Care Center on West Congress Street in Lafayette.

The hope is that the new clinic will reduce the number of patients using UHC's Emergency Room and keep ER visits for true emergencies. Around 11,000 patients are anticipated to be treated during the clinic's first year in operation, according to UHC officials.

No appointments are needed and patients will be seen on a first come first serve basis with minimal wait time. The center will be open Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm and Saturdays and Sundays from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm.

The clinic will begin seeing patients on Wednesday, October 23 and will serve those with Medicaid and other private insurance across Acadiana.
