LAFAYETTE, La. - University Hospital and Clinics (UHC) held the Great American Smoke Out on Wednesday.
It was a health fair that was created by the American Cancer Society as a way to encourage smokers to quit for a day in hopes that it will lead them to quit for good.
There were exhibits to show the dangers of smoking and also pre-screening for lung cancer risk factors.
"We teach people about the withdrawal process and what they can expect and we really understand that once you know to expect from the quitting process it's easier to go through it and when you have support it's really big thing as well," said Nakesha Latike with UHC.
