Several departments were involved in two vehicle pursuits that ended in Lafayette Parish Wednesday morning. Three people have been arrested.

Duson Police Chief Kip Judice says that his department was involved in two high speed chases this morning both originating in Acadia Parish and ending in Lafayette Parish.

Judice says that his officers were alerted by the Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office to a pursuit on I-10 East from the Rayne area at 5:20 am. Acadia Parish Deputies were already in pursuit of the vehicle when it exited off of I-10 onto LA Hwy 95 North to Mire. Judice says the vehicle then doubled back to the Duson area via LA Hwy 343 south in Lafayette Parish. The pursuit continued onto Ridge Road and Lagneaux Road before ending in the backyard of a home on Harlow Street in Lafayette Parish.

The driver, identified as a 14-year-old juvenile, was taken into custody.

An investigation into the incident revealed that the child was attempting to run away from home and had taken a relatives work truck without consent. The teen was booked into the Lafayette Parish Juvenile Detention Center and will face several charges in several jurisdictions.

Video of the chase was captured on dashcam by the Duson Police Department.

Agencies involved in the pursuit included the Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office, Duson Police and Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office.

A second pursuit occurred around 7:37 am. Duson Police say the pursuit began in Estherwood and had been in progress for about 20 miles with the Crowley Police Department before they became involved.

Police say the driver was being sought by the Estherwood Police for a variety of traffic charges and fled during an attempted traffic stop. The vehicle, with two suspects inside, reached speeds in excess of 100 mph during the pursuit, according to police. Upon reaching the Duson area, the vehicle was stopped on Jenkins Road off of US Hwy 90 (Cameron Street).

Two suspects 68 year old Rodney Lee Carter (driver) and 43 year old Corey Joseph White (Passenger), both from Georgia, were arrested following the pursuit. They were booked into the Lafayette Parish Jail where they are being held for Acadia Parish Authorities for charges arising there.

Police say illegal drugs were recovered from the vehicle. It was also learned that the vehicle had allegedly been taken by Carter from his elderly mother in Georgia without consent.

This Pursuit involved Estherwood, Crowley, and Duson Police and the Acadia and Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office and ended at 7:41 AM.
