Two dead after being hit by car while waiting for city bus in Lafayette

Two people are dead after being hit by a car while waiting for the city bus Tuesday in Lafayette.

According to a spokesperson Sgt. Wayne Griffin with the Lafayette Police Department, the incident occurred around 5:20 p.m. on Johnston St. near Pep Boys and the Acadiana Mall. Police tell us a man and woman were waiting for the city bus when a passing vehicle hit them.

A portion of Johnston St. is closed at this time.

There are no charges at this time because the case is under investigation. The names of the victims won't be released until their families are notified.
