Two arrested in armed robbery at Carencro convenience store

Two people have been arrested in connection with an armed robbery at a Carencro convenience store.

Carencro Police Chief David Anderson says that on January 12, 2021, shortly after 9:00 pm, officers were dispatched to an Armed Robbery in progress, at the Shop Rite store located on N. University Avenue in Carencro.

Upon arrival, employees told officers that the suspect had fled the scene on foot prior to officers arriving.

Investigators searched the surrounding areas in an attempt to locate a suspect. They say they were not able to locate anyone fitting the description of the suspect in the area that night.

Carencro Police began investigating the case and were able develop two people of interest. On January 20, 2021, Carencro Police with the assistance of the LPSO, went to an address on Arnaudville Rd. within Lafayette Parish and located 21-year-old Angel Lopez and 21-year-old Iveth Escalante.

Anderson says that an investigation revealed that Lopez had allegedly committed the Armed Robbery at the Shop Rite and Escalante allegedly participated by driving the vehicle used in the crime.

Lopez was also wanted for an Attempted Second Degree Murder charge within Lafayette Parish. Both were booked into LPCC on the following charges:

  • Lopez – Armed Robbery, Attempted Second Degree Murder (Warrant)
  • Escalante – Principle to Armed Robbery.
