As Trayford Pellerin is laid to rest, family and loved ones are remembering a man who they say tried his best at everything he did.

His cousin said while Pellerin was not perfect, he was a good man.

Pellerin's family overcome with emotion as they say goodbye to their loved one. His cousin remembering the man who loved to cut hair, cook and eat seafood.

"That life was stripped, stolen and robbed from Trayford. Justice is the only retribution," said Pellerin's cousin.

Pastor Omar Thibeaux said, "Too soon. Taken away too soon."

Thibeaux says it's important to keep Pellerin's name alive as the community continues to grieve. He believes people are going through racial trauma and says Pellerin did not need to be shot.

"This one event brings all their names back to us," Thibeaux said. "Philando Castile, Alton Sterling, Trayvon Martin...they bring it all back. It's trauma. It's trauma."

Speakers at the funeral maintain there is a disconnect between city leaders and the community when it comes to compassion, mercy and love.

Reverend Al Sharpton said, "The police are out of control."

Sharpton believes Lafayette needs to "execute justice" following Pellerin's death by police.

"We shouldn't burn down our own city, but you shouldn't be shooting us either," Sharpton said. "You want the black leaders in Lafayette and the family to condemn the violence...they have. When are you going to condemn the wrong police shooting? You can't have it one way."

Sharpton says he will stand with the activists and will be here to continue supporting the family until justice is served.

"Justice for Tray! Justice for Tray. God will. God will. God Will," Sharpton chanted.

Mayor-President Josh Guillory was also at the funeral. He offered prayers for those who are hurting and told the family they are not alone.

"Until we see Trayford again, let us hold on to God's unchanging hand. Please know that we are here to comfort you, but most importantly that you are not alone," Guillory said.
