LAFAYETTE, La. — Passenger traffic at the Lafayette Regional Airport appears to be picking back up for the month of May after a large drop in April due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to TSA data on daily passenger counts for the month of May, there were a total of 3,816 passengers as of May 28.

The day with the highest passenger count was May 22 with 212, which marked the beginning of the Memorial Day weekend.

According to data on air traffic on the LFT website, there were 1,605 enplanements and 1,848 deplanements for April, for a total of 3,453 total passengers for the month.

For comparison, there were 9,277 enplanements and 10,457 deplanements for March, for a total of 19,734.

And there were 18,422 enplanements and 18546 deplanements for February, for a total of 36,968.

While passenger counts for May are down nearly 90% compared to where they were in February, the data shows a positive trend that travel could be on the rebound in Acadiana.
