LAFAYETTE, La. — The Texas Roadhouse on Johnston Street in Lafayette will temporarily close beginning Monday to sanitize the restaurant after some of its employees tested positive for COVID-19.
After reports came out over the weekend that the restaurant would stay open despite employees testing positive, a spokesperson tells KATC that the restaurant will voluntarily close Monday to perform a fog sanitation and deep clean of the restaurant.
"We are going to voluntarily close today, and do a deep clean of the restaurant," said Travis Doster, director of public relations at Texas Roadhouse. "We closed to give everyone peace of mind. It was our call to close and reassess and make sure that we don't have anymore cases."
Doster said that employees are required to take a symptom survey and temperature check before starting work. And if they have shown to be around anyone with COVID-19, then they are excused from work.
"As things open back up, we are cautioning employees to take precautions," said Doster. "We believe our systems are working and nobody is working sick."
Doster said that employees scheduled to work Monday will still be paid.
Asked about when the restaurant might reopen, Doster said they are going to look at reopening on a day-by-day basis.
In May, the restaurant posted the following post on its Facebook page about the safety precautions it is taking.
