Suspect in Lafayette fatal hit-and-run identified

The Lafayette Police Department says the suspect in Sunday's fatal hit-and-run has been identified.

Police say that the 28-year-old turned herself in to the department on Monday, March 30.

The department says that due to circumstances pertaining to COVID-19 an arrest warrant has been issued for Felony Hit and Run with Death and the arrest is pending.

The name of the suspect is being withheld pending her arrest.

Around 10 pm on Sunday, March 29, police responded to the parking lot of a North University Avenue convenience store.

There police say they learned a man, identified as 45-year-old Jason Francis, had been struck by a vehicle while outside the store.

Surveillance video showed a female driving a white SUV striking Francis and driving away.

Francis was taken to a local hospital where he died on Monday, March 30 due to his injuries.
