LAFAYETTE, La. - Surrey Street in Lafayette is closed due to an overturned 18-wheeler.
The crash happened around 7:48 am Friday in the 1600 block of Surrey Street.
The tanker was carrying fuel, according to Cpl. Bridgette Dugas, spokesperson for the Lafayette Police Dept.
The Lafayette Fire Department says that Lafayette Hazmat Team, Louisiana State Police Hazmat and DEQ are on the scene of the accident involving the tanker truck in 1600 block of Surrey Street. The truck was carrying diesel when it rolled over.
A small amount of fuel leaked out but, hazmat crews were able to contain the minor spill and stop further diesel from leaking.
The diesel in the tanker is being offloaded into another tanker. Hazmat teams and DEQ are monitoring the process. It’s expected to take two to three hours.
There are no reported injuries.
