A ceremony was held at St. Thomas More Catholic High to break ground on the school's new Chapel.

A Mass was held at 8:15 am on September 24 with the ceremony following outside the school at 9:15 am.

Bishop J. Douglas Deshotel and Rev. Michael Russo were on hand to officiate the ceremony along with STM administration and campaign chairmen.

According to the school, the chapel will sit at the front of campus and is inspired by the church where St. Thomas More worshiped in Chelsea, London.

Funds were raised for the new chapel through the school's Capital Campaign, Envision More, which launched in 2018.

The Chapel is the second component to be completed of the four phases of the school's campaign.

Principal Kelley Leger says the new facility will help students grow in their faith.

"I'm hoping that first and foremost it instills a sense of peace in being closer to God, but also we really hope it instills a pride in our school and ownership in saying that 'I helped do this.'"
