State Police are providing more details on Tuesday morning's officer involved shooting on Northwood Street in Lafayette.
Troopers say they were requested to investigate the incident which involved an officer with the Lafayette Police Department.
A preliminary investigation revealed that shortly after 5:00 am, LPD officers were responding to a burglary complaint in the area of Winnipeg Avenue when they made contact with a suspect believed to be involved.
While attempting to place the suspect into custody, troopers say an altercation took place and an LPD officer discharged his weapon.
The suspect was struck by gunfire and transported to a hospital in stable condition.
According to state police, two handguns were found near the suspect with one matching a handgun taken in the earlier burglary incident.
No officers were injured in the shooting.
State Police say the investigation is ongoing. No further updates were available.
