St. Martinville man accused in hit-and-run that injured toddler

A St. Martinville man has been identified by law enforcement as the driver involved in a hit-and-run that left a 1-year-old hospitalized.

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office says that at around 8:20 p.m., deputies were called out to the 600 block of Sweetbriar Street in Lafayette in reference to a vehicle striking the one-year-old child, then leaving the scene.

The driver, according to deputies was identified as 37-year-old Joseph Broussard of St. Martinville.

Broussard was arrested, booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on charges of 1st Degree Vehicular Negligent Injury, Operating While Intoxicated (1st offense) and Hit-and-Run.

The 1-year-old remains in critical condition at a local hospital.
