The St. Joseph Diner in Lafayette is in need of volunteers.

The volunteers would help with food preparation as the diner works to distribute up to 15,000 meals per week for the Acadiana area.

A total of 20 volunteers are needed for the morning and afternoon shifts.

Chief Communications Officer with Catholic Charities of Acadiana, the organization that oversees the diner, says the amount of meals being distributed now is about seven times the usual amount.

"Where we usually would have served about 2,100 per week, we are now serving 15,000 meals a week. They are going to be distributed from the diner out into the community, so starting this Monday we are going to need volunteers again. This is something we're very excited about," Broussard explained.
