Spoonbill Watering Hole and Restaurant has been nominated for a 2020 James Beard Foundation Award for its design.
Spoonbill Watering Hole & Restaurant is an original seafood and Southern comfort restaurant that opened in November 2018 in Downtown Lafayette.
The firms Spoonbill Watering Hole and Restaurant, Flywheel Co. and Vermillion Architects, LLC were nominated for the foundation's Outstanding Restaurant Design Awards in the 75 Seats and Under category.
Rayne native Isaac Toups, who operates Toups' Meatery in New Orleans, was also nominated for the Best Chef: South category, which includes Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.
According to the foundation's website, the Best Chefs category is for chefs who set high culinary standards and also demonstrate integrity and admirable leadership skills in their respective regions. A nominee may be from any kind of dining establishment but must have been working as a chef for at least five years, with the three most recent years spent in the region.
According to the foundation, Restaurant & Chef Award winners are slated to be announced on Friday, Sept. 25, from Chicago, broadcast live via the James Beard Foundation’s Twitter feed.
Spoonbill falls under Gov. John Bel Edwards' Stay At Home Order that closes indoor dining areas for restaurants, but it is offering pickup and delivery services.
The restaurant says it recently reopened their patio for guests to enjoy their takeout orders, along with observing additional social distancing measures with the health and safety of guests and employees alike being their main focus.
