SLCC administrators and faculty from the Nursing and Allied Health Division honored Medical Assistant, Practical Nursing, and Registered Nursing students with a drive through pinning ceremony.

On Friday May 22, students gathered at the Lafayette Campus, remaining in their vehicles and drove through to receive their pins.

Students from the Abbeville, Crowley, Lafayette, Opelousas, and Ville Platte campuses participated in the ceremonies. SLCC's Young Memorial Campus in Morgan City for Practical Nursing students held their pinning on Thursday.

This ceremony replaced the in-person ceremony that was scheduled for the Spring 2020 semester.

Administrators said they wanted to make sure their students felt special while ensuring everyone's safety.

"It was mixed reaction because they wanted the traditional ceremony and rightly so, I understand. However, we wanted to give them something," explained Jeannie Thomas, Associate Dean of Nursing and Allied Health. So once they realized they could decorate their cars and make it festive and fun, since they couldn't decorate their graduation hat, I think that helped them to adjust and accept it more."
