and last updated

Second Harvest Food Bank is helping people impacted by both the COVID-19 pandemic and the hurricanes put food on their tables for Christmas.

The meal distribution is to help families in Acadiana who are facing challenges this holiday season. They will give out "holiday meals" at a first come, first serve basis while supplies last. The boxes were filled with turkeys, potatoes, and other holiday staples.

The distribution was held Wednesday from 10am-12pm at the Second Harvest Food Bank location on 215 E Pinhook Road in Lafayette.

Second Harvest says they want families to have one less thing to worry about this Christmas.

"I think we all can agree that 2020 has been a unique year. It's had a lot of challenges for a lot of people--being in the midst of a pandemic and the back to back hurricanes. This right here is to provide relief for the local need. This is to meet a huge local need, and it's the holidays. Christmas is around the corner. No one should be without a hot meal. And this is what it's all about, making sure everyone has a hot meal," explained Natasha Curley.
