Scott first responders spend Christmas on standby

While Christmas is a day for spending time with family, local first responders spent the day on standby.

And even though they'll be at work, Scott firefighters look forward to Christmas at the station.

"Well this is our second home. This is our other family. We spend more time with these guys than some of us do with our own family," explained Chris Segura, an engineer with the Scott Fire Department.

"We have our families at home and the families we live with at the fire station," added Fire Chief Chad Sonnier. "So we try and split our time with both of them."

It's a fun tradition at the station for families to visit on Christmas Day.

"A lot of our families that live in town, they may even come over and have dinner with us so we try and make it special at the station," Capt. Kris Gumpert, Second Assistant Chief commented."They get to see the fire trucks, especially the younger generations. It's a different experience outside of their house."

Chief Sonnier says it's important to show them their loved ones are appreciated.

"The families sacrifice a lot all year by letting their families be in the fire department, and it's our way of thanking them and their families. They already give enough to us, so we just want to thank them."
