School supplies and uniforms were handed out at Girard Park on Monday, September 7, to families getting ready to send their children back to school.

Classroom essentials like notebooks and pencils were handed out along with uniforms and shoes in several sizes.

The event was hosted by Diaira Guilliam, Charmaine Moreaux, Jessica Marks of Senior Helpers and took place under the Girard Park Pavilion.

At 11:00 am, a line of parents and children had formed to drop off and receive supplies.

The ladies say that the turnout was amazing to see. In less than an hour, most of the supplies and around 200 back packs were given away.

The smiles and laughter on the faces of those who came out today, they say, were indicative of a job well done.

"With everything going on, especially with the pandemic and recently with Hurricane Laura, we just wanted to give back and lend a helping hand," says Guilliam.

Food and refreshments were also served.
