Longtime Lafayette resident Yvonne Nassar Saloom shared her family history with a group at the library today.
The Lafayette Museum and the Lafayette Public Library System presented Saloom's talk, "Roots of Cedar in Louisiana."
Saloom has lived in Lafayette for more than 60 years, and is proud of her Lebanese heritage. She published a history of the Saloom and Boustany families, two chapters in the First 100 Families of Lafayette. Her history also was published in the Attakapas Gazette. And, in association with the UL Archives, she published "Roots of the Cedar."
"I truly hope that participants learn to love all of the different cultures that Lafayette has, and in particular today, the Lebanese culture, a true family traditional culture," an organizer said.
